Crispy tofu and broccoli tossed in a sticky, sweet, spicy General Tso-style sauce.
Ingredients
Tofu and Vegetables
- 1 block tofu
- 3 heads broccoli
- 1 stack green onions
- 3 tbsp fresh grated ginger
- Canola or avocado oil
- ⅓ cup cornstarch
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 cup uncooked rice
Sauce
- 4 tbsp brown sugar
- 3 tbsp hoisin
- 3 tbsp rice vinegar
- 3 tbsp ketchup
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- ½ cup water
- 2 tbsp sriracha, or to taste
Garnish
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
Prepare rice and tofu
Cook rice. Drain tofu of excess water, press or wrap in paper towels, and let sit about 10 minutes.
Make sauce
Whisk brown sugar, hoisin, rice vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce, water, and sriracha. Set aside.
Bake tofu
Preheat oven to 425°F. Cut tofu into bite-size cubes, coat lightly with oil and ⅓ cup cornstarch, place on a pan, and bake 20–25 minutes.
Char broccoli
Heat oil in a large pan and cook broccoli hard until charred at the edges, about 5–10 minutes. Remove broccoli from pan.
Build pan sauce
Add sesame oil, most of the green onions, and grated ginger to the pan. Cook about 1 minute, until fragrant.
Finish
Return broccoli to the pan and add sauce. Bring to a boil, then simmer about 2 minutes. Add tofu and toss to coat. Top with remaining green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
- Cook the broccoli hard enough to get charred edges before adding sauce.
